In order to master a new language we need to understand the structure of that language; when I was a child my teachers never taught me that for learning a new language sometimes you have to forget yours, note that I never said you have to forget all grammar concepts.
Although spanish and english have a lot of common vocabulary their structures are somewhat different and that is why I said sometimes you need to forget your language.
